Terry Yount, a Drexel alderman for 25 years, is stepping down from the board of aldermen.

Yount resigned from the position for health reasons, according to a press release from the town of Drexel. He has served on the board of aldermen since December 1999, serving multiple times as mayor pro tem.
“I love the Drexel community and have enjoyed serving the citizens for many years,†Yount said in his resignation. “It is with deep sadness that I must resign my elected position as Alderman for health reasons. ... Now I must leave the work in your capable hands and applaud your success. I have been honored to serve, as well as protect our Drexel community.â€
Yount has been a lifelong resident of the town, first volunteering as a child at the Drexel Community Fair, where he went on to serve on the fair board for 20 years, the town said.
He started working as a reserve officer for the town’s police department in 1966 and was made a full-time officer in 1969. In 1998, he retired from full-time work and started working for the U.S. Marshals Service.
“Terry is a legend in this town and has several decades of exceptional public service,†said Drexel Mayor Dennis Anthony. “He has been a great resource for the board, and we will miss his experience and knowledge. Thankfully, we know he is not too far away when we need him.â€
Yount and his wife of 58 years, Candace, will continue to live in Drexel.
The Drexel Board of Aldermen is expected to accept the resignation in the coming weeks and will announce plans to fill the vacancy soon. Yount’s term was set to expire in 2027.
