After being forced to close in late September when Hurricane Helene caused flooding at Mimosa Hills Shopping Center, Planet Fitness in Â鶹´«Ã½ is back open.
The chain gym reopened its doors Thursday, Dec. 12, following months of renovations after the hurricane left the club under several feet of water in September.
In a news release, the gym said its equipment was replaced and now includes:
- A stretching and mobility room with Fitbenches.
- A functional training room with a PF360 workout area.
- A full-body circuit on the main floor.
- New strength training equipment, including plate-loaded machines and spin bikes.
- Enhanced spa offerings, including Total Body Enhancement and CryoLounge.
“We’re very excited to welcome back our members in the Â鶹´«Ã½ community! Hurricane Helene left many local organizations devastated, but it’s incredible to be a part of a community so compelled to rebuild,†said Andrew Watkins, market vice president at National Fitness Partners, a Planet Fitness franchise. “Our members will enjoy some special upgrades within our Judgement Free club to continue reaching their fitness goals.â€

The club will host a grand opening celebration on Jan. 23 with NASCAR driver Joey Logano to celebrate its return.

Planet Fitness first opened in the shopping center off Carbon City Road in Â鶹´«Ã½ in January 2022.
Kimbrell’s Furniture in Â鶹´«Ã½ relocates
Kimbrell’s Furniture in Â鶹´«Ã½ was also located in the Mimosa Hills Shopping Center and had to close due to flooding.
The business has temporarily relocated to the former Drexel Furniture mill, now renovated to be Alpine Mill, off East Fleming Drive in Â鶹´«Ã½. The entrance to the Kimbrell’s location is across Fleming Drive from O’Reilly Auto Parts.
Kimbrell’s had a soft opening on Saturday, Dec. 14, and will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
“We’re just excited to be back in Â鶹´«Ã½ and serving our customers,†said Store Manager Lola Preston. “And it’s just been wonderful the amount of people who have already come by just to say, ‘Hey, we missed you,’ and you know, the community is wonderful. And we missed them, too.â€
Preston said the decision about where the store will be located permanently will be made by corporate leaders.
