A man who lives in the Hickory area of Burke County was accused of methamphetamine trafficking on Dec. 12.
William Chase Pate, 38, of Hickory, was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, according to information from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Pate was charged after SWAT teams from the sheriff’s office and the 鶹ý Department of Public Safety executed a search warrant at Pate’s home on South Fork Avenue on Dec. 12, the sheriff’s office said.
Small plastic baggies, glass pipes, straws and other drug paraphernalia were found scattered throughout the home along with cash and packaging materials the sheriff’s office said were consistent with narcotics trafficking. More than 2.2 pounds of methamphetamine were found in the home, along with multiple firearms, the sheriff’s office said.

The Dec. 12 arrest came after a collaboration by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the NC Department of Prisons, NC State Bureau of Investigation, ATF, Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Hickory Police Department and 鶹ý Public Safety.
“The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is thankful for our working relationships with these organizations and appreciates the ongoing partnerships with these and other agencies,” the sheriff’s office said.
Pate was held under a $100,000 secured bond, the sheriff’s office said.
Pate has previously been convicted of manslaughter, according to records from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. Pate was convicted of manslaughter in connection with the 2016 shooting death of Christopher Eron Williams, according to a previous News Herald article. He was on parole for that conviction until Jan. 11, 2023, state records showed.
