Expect to see flames and smoke from a property on East Union Street throughout the day Tuesday as firefighters burn a house for a training exercise.Â

Firefighters will burn the home at 1208 E. Union St., Morganton, on Tuesday, April 15, said Israel Gibson, fire division chief for Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Public Safety. The home was one of two donated to the department for burn training by the Cox family.
Burke Drive will be closed from East Union Street to Harry Street on April 15.
“With the acquired structure, that is the most realistic training we have,†Gibson said. “However, we have to take safety measures to do that and a certain number of instructors in place.â€

Firefighters burned the first home at 1204 E. Union St. on Tuesday, April 8.
He said firefighters were training on suppression efforts, search and rescue, ventilation tactics and rapid intervention tactics.
“All that is in place and we’re implementing each one of those today in our training with this structure,†Gibson said. “We’re also doing pump training for our driver/operators. For our trucks on the side, they’re pumping water to us and they’re doing some water supply training on the other side of the house.â€
