A man who has been a full-time barber for about eight years opened his own barbershop in Rutherford College in late January.
Derek Reinhardt, owner of JW Barber and Style, said he became a barber when he started looking for a trade to get into after working at a furniture factory for about a year and a half.

He got his cosmetology license but didn’t do anything with it until about 15 or 16 years ago, when he said he started working at a barbershop in Valdese.
When the opportunity to own his own shop opened up, he took it.
“It’s just something I’d always wanted to do,†Reinhardt said.
He has another barber, Ben Johnson, working with him in the shop and hopes to expand when business calls for it.
Johnson’s grandmother recommended he consider becoming a barber.
“She always thought I’d be good at cutting hair, so I just decided one day to try the school out down here at Winston Salem Barber School, and sure enough, I became a barber,†Johnson said.
