Burke County may see snow at higher elevations toward the end of the week, but most of the snow expected will be closer to the Tennessee border.
Meteorologist Doug Outlaw with the National Weather Service at the Greenville/Spartanburg Airport said snow is expected in the northern mountains of North Carolina. It is expected to start falling Thursday night.
He said the areas of Jonas Ridge and Linville Falls could see around a half-inch of snow fall Thursday night and into Friday morning.
Outlaw said the Smoky Mountains, Beech Mountain and Mt. Mitchell could see more than 2 inches during the period.
However, the lower portions of Burke County will likely not see snow flurries, he said. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 30s during the night but will not go below freezing, according to forecasts.
