Someone younger than 18 was charged early Friday morning for driving the wrong way on a road in Â鶹´«Ã½.
The driver, whose identity will not be released because of their age, was driving the wrong way on South Sterling Street near Waffle House around 12:31 a.m. when Officer Christian Triplett saw the vehicle, according to information from the Â鶹´«Ã½ Department of Public Safety.
Triplett tried to pull the vehicle over, but it turned onto Drexel Road, leading police on a chase for 3 miles and reaching speeds as fast as 80 mph, public safety said.
The driver stopped on Drexel Road near Goins Avenue, where they were detained, public safety said.
The driver was charged with felony flee to elude arrest, reckless driving to endanger, failure to stop at a stop sign, speeding 80 mph in a 35 mph zone and driving the wrong way on a street or highway, public safety said. A passenger in the vehicle was released to their parents.

The vehicle was seized under North Carolina’s Run and You’re Done law. The driver was released to the custody of his parents, public safety said.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office and Drexel Police Department assisted in the chase.
