Frigid air and bone-chilling winds from winter weather can lead to health risks such as frostbite and hypothermia. AccuWeather's Ali Reid shares some tips on how you can combat freezing temperatures.
A cold front is expected in North Carolina next week, with lows in the teens and highs in the low 30s.
Despite the temperatures, the chance of snow is low and a storm has not developed yet, said Chris Horne, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.
There is a chance of sleet late Friday, Jan. 17, night or early Saturday morning along the Interstate 40 corridor, including Marion, Morganton, Hickory and Statesville, Horne said.

“It’s going to be mild enough where it’s going to be mostly rain for the event, but it could begin Friday night, Saturday morning as a period of sleet for the I-40 corridor,†Horne said. “It pales in comparison to the Friday night we had last week. Just a token mention of sleet.â€
He said sleet Friday night or Saturday morning should have little impact on the area.
A cold front will move into the area Sunday night, causing temperatures to plummet to the teens. Highs through Wednesday are forecasted to be in the low 30s, he said.
As far as precipitation goes, Horne said forecast models are all over the place for potential snow next week.
“Confidence is pretty low on the specifics for the evolution of a storm affecting the Carolinas for Tuesday and/or Wednesday for next week,†Horne said. “A storm hasn’t even formed yet. … One thing is for certain, it’s going to be very cold for that period, Monday through Wednesday next week.â€
