A man who has been a full-time barber for about eight years opened his own barbershop in Rutherford College in late January.
Derek Reinhardt, owner of JW Barber and Style, said he became a barber when he started looking for a trade to get into after working at a furniture factory for about a year and a half.
He got his cosmetology license but didn鈥檛 do anything with it until about 15 or 16 years ago, when he said he started working at a barbershop in Valdese.
When the opportunity to own his own shop opened up, he took it.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just something I鈥檇 always wanted to do,鈥� Reinhardt said.
He has another barber, Ben Johnson, working with him in the shop and hopes to expand when business calls for it.
Johnson鈥檚 grandmother recommended he consider becoming a barber.
鈥淪he always thought I鈥檇 be good at cutting hair, so I just decided one day to try the school out down here at Winston Salem Barber School, and sure enough, I became a barber,鈥� Johnson said.
Man or woman, boy or girl, Reinhardt said he can cut and style any hair. Haircuts are $20, senior cuts are $18 and bald fade haircuts are $25. The shop, located at 421 U.S. Hwy. 70, Connelly Springs, is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
