Dr. Roger B. Lim
March 15, 1974 - November 16, 2024
Dr. Roger Benemerito Lim, a dedicated and compassionate emergency department physician, passed away unexpectedly on November 16, 2024, at the age of 50. He leaves behind his treasured wife, April, and their two sons, Gabriel and Ian.
Born March 15, 1974, in Beloit, WI, he was known for his unwavering commitment to his patients and his community. Roger graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School in 2000, with his doctorate and completed his residency in emergency medicine at Albany Medical Center in NY (2000 to 2003). After interviewing with Mountain Emergency Physicians and falling in love with Western NC, he dedicated the next 20+ years to the communities of Burke and Caldwell counties.
Dr. Lim's career was marked by his tireless dedication to saving lives and providing comfort to those in their most vulnerable moments. Roger's colleagues remember him as a skilled and knowledgeable doctor whose dedication to his patients was truly exceptional. His kindness, sense of humor, and ability to remain calm under pressure made him a beloved figure in the hospital.
Outside of the hospital, Roger was a devoted husband and father who cherished every moment spent with his family. As a winter enthusiast, he taught Gabriel to love the slopes as much as he did. The two would hit the ski resorts at the first sign of snow. Being a skilled soccer player, he shared the love of the game with Ian. You could often find them practicing in the front yard, or even the living room. Roger was always ready to take the paddleboards to the lake with his wife. He loved to paddle out a couple of miles to a small cove and fish. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he took immense pride in watching the boys grow.
One of the family's most exciting traditions was their annual ski trip to either Colorado or Utah. Roger was known for his boundless energy on these trips, often being the first one up in the morning, eager to hit the slopes. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he loved teaching Ian to ski, or racing Gabriel down the mountain. He was always encouraging them to push their limits while ensuring they had fun. These trips were filled with laughter, snowball fights, and hot cocoa by the fire, creating memories that the family will hold dear forever.
In addition to his wife and sons, Dr. Lim is survived by his parents, Dr. Roger G Lim and Dr. Nancy Benemerito Lim, also of Hickory, NC; his older brother, Frederick Lim and wife, Dr. Diana Gabriel (DDS); and nieces, Helen and Franziska Gabriel-Lim, from Ossining, NY; in-laws, Larry and Martha Feimster, of Morganton, NC; sister-in-law, Suzanne Feimster; nephews, Michael (Kelcie) and Preston Collingwood, Sgt Garron Moses USMC; as well as many lifelong friends.
Roger's sudden passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of compassion, dedication, and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to have known him, and he will be dearly missed.
The funeral service will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Friday, November 22, 2024, in Hickory, NC. Following the service there will be a celebration of life gathering in the Jack Bass Memorial Building at Bass-Smith Funeral Home on 334 2nd St NW, where family and friends will remember Roger and pay their last respects.
