The National Weather Service is predicting 1-2 inches of snow and sleet for Morganton, Hickory and Statesville, and about 3 inches of snow for Marion on Friday.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Trisha Palmer said Marion will begin to see snow around noon on Friday. Areas east of Marion will begin to see a mix of snow and sleet in the early-to-mid afternoon.
Palmer said the chance of snow will increase later in the afternoon Friday. Sleet will begin to mix in around sunset.Â
Palmer said areas closer to Lake Norman can expect to see a little more ice. She added that where the snow and freezing rain line will fall is uncertain as the system moves in from the south.
A little more snow can be expected early Saturday, but the line of precipitation will move out around sunrise Saturday morning, Palmer said.

Palmer said about two-hundredths of an inch of ice are expected for areas around Lake Norman and about one-tenth of an inch of ice for areas farther south.
High temperatures on Friday will be in the mid-30s for Marion, Morganton, Hickory and Statesville. Lows Friday night will be in the upper 20s for the area.
Saturday will see highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.
Palmer urged residents to pay attention to information shared by their community and pay attention to road conditions Friday and Saturday.
“If folks are on the road, slow down and leave a little distance,†Palmer said. “There will be slick spots on roads and bridges, so please, please, please slow down.â€
Palmer also said people should be prepared for power outages.
“There may still be some trees that are weak from Helene, so people should prepare like they normally would when there is the possibility of power outages,†Palmer said.
