After months of being closed to traffic, the bridge over Interstate 40 at Exit 113 is expected to open Friday.
David Uchiyama, a spokesman for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, said the Malcolm Boulevard bridge should open to traffic around midday Friday.
Uchiyama said the bridge will have temporary pavement markings until crews are able to apply final markings in the spring when temperatures warm up.
The bridge was closed for more than eight months while construction company R.E. Burns and Sons, headquartered in Statesville, completed the work.
The $2.3 million project started in April and the bridge closed to traffic on May 6, according to NCDOT. The work to rehabilitate the bridge included replacing parts of the bridge, restoring the piers and beams of the bridge, adding a new guardrail and a new surface with markings and reflectors.
