A Sunday afternoon knife attack on Eldred Street in Valdese left one person injured. Police are searching for information about the suspected attacker.

At about 2:10 p.m. on Sunday, Valdese police officers were sent to an altercation in the 200 block of Eldred Street, according to information from the police department.

Police found a person who was injured in a knife assault, the police department said. Information about the victim’s condition has not been released.

Police are searching for a white man who was wearing black shorts and a gray hoodie who ran from the scene in socks, abandoning his slide-on shoes, and heading up Main Street behind the Jack-B-Quick convenience store, the police department said.

The suspect was seen leaving the area in a silver Toyota Camry, headed east on Main Street (U.S. Highway 70), the police department said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Valdese Police Department at 828-879-2104 and leave a message to receive a return call from investigators.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office and NC State Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the investigation. The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s laboratory is helping with surveillance video enhancement, Valdese police said.
